Ivey alum Christal Wang’s efforts to push for a more neuro-inclusive world have earned her a place on Inc. Magazine's 2024 Female Founders List, alongside high-profile changemakers such as mental health advocate Selena Gomez and equality champion Billie Jean King. The list honours 250 women whose innovations and ideas are shaping the world into a better place.
Wang, HBA ’15, Co-Founder and CEO of Shimmer, an app that combines personalized ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) coaching with specialized tools, was acknowledged for growing Shimmer’s neurodiverse coaching and achieving $1 million ARR (annual recurring revenue). She also made the special Adviser Picks and Newcomers lists.
Wang, whose idea for Shimmer came from her own struggles with ADHD, said receiving the award was a humbling affirmation of Shimmer’s mission: to create a more neuro-inclusive world.
“It highlights the importance of supporting women, particularly neurodivergent women, to create and lead in the spaces they envision,” she said. "This award from Inc. is not just for me, but for every neurodivergent woman striving to break barriers and redefine norms. After all, if we won't create the spaces fit for us, who will?"
Wang said the recognition also goes to Shimmer’s team and is a reminder of the vital impact the team’s work has on society and of all the transformative contributions of women who are tackling some of the world’s biggest problems.
The 2024 list features women who have overcome challenges and lifted up those around them, while leading impactful organizations. Some of the notable recipients include Canadian businesswoman Michelle Zatlyn, whose company, Cloudflare, has been providing cybersecurity services in Israel and Gaza; and actress Natalie Portman, who co-founded Angel City Football Club, a professional women’s soccer team.
