Barbara Fraser brings her C-suite experience and marketing roots to service on corporate Boards. She's valued for her multi-dimensional analysis of organizations — from a strategic perspective and for challenging the status quo, her ability to get to the heart of issues, and to facilitate consensus.
Since moving on from executive roles in 2007, Barbara has served as a Corporate Director of Economical Insurance Group, MD Life Insurance (owned by the CMA), Manitoba Telecom Services, Gerber Life Insurance (a division of Nestlé), and Ivey Business School. Earlier in her career, she served on eight other Boards, as both an inside and outside director. With her extraordinary background in consumer facing companies, Ms. Fraser brings considerable talent in brand management, product development, marketing and sales to her Boards.
As a business leader, Barbara was a top executive in marketing and general management at leading global companies. In these roles, she has worked all across Canada, the U.S. and worldwide. Barbara began her career at P&G in Canada where she became the first woman appointed to an executive marketing and then General Manager position globally. Driven by her interest in learning new businesses, Barbara switched industries from CPG to the financial sector in 1995. She joined Citibank to build a retail investment business worldwide and became Chairman & CEO of Citicorp Investment Services and Citicorp Insurance Group in the U.S. In 2001, Barbara was recruited by American Express, to become President of Global Travelers Cheques & Prepaid Services, where she revitalized a declining business to focus on prepaid cards and global gifting trends. Moving to Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express Financial Advisors), she became EVP Products and Chairman & CEO of IDS Life where she inspired an organization-wide business strategy shift from a mass-market approach to focus on the mass affluent, resulting in double digit growth. Ms. Fraser has a consistent record of generating top and bottom line growth across diverse businesses.
Ms. Fraser is an HBA graduate from Ivey Business School, Western University and is a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors in Canada.
