Nuclear Energy as an Essential Lynchpin of a Clean Energy Future

Wednesday, June 12, 2024

2:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Strategic Conference, Main Stage

As energy costs rise, nuclear power is emerging as a viable option to lower global emissions and enhance energy security, especially for regions reliant on coal. Canada ranked 7th globally in nuclear energy production, producing nearly 15% of its electricity from four active nuclear plants. In comparison, the US ranks first, producing 30% of the world’s nuclear energy and consuming 20% of it from nuclear sources.

Attendee Insights:

Speakers will discuss Canada’s plans to expand nuclear energy production and the role of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in increasing production and growing exports to international markets.

Moderator:

Adam Fremeth, Associate Professor and MBA Faculty Program Director at Ivey Business School, will moderate this insightful panel. Adam’s research focuses on how firms engage with public policy, especially in regulated utilities and the energy sector. His expertise, combined with insights from industry leaders like Benjamin Reinke (VP of Global Business Development, X-energy), William Smith (SVP - Operations & Engineering, Terrestrial Energy), Christopher Gully (VP, Communications & Member Engagement, Canadian Nuclear Association), and Chad MacLean (Senior Director, Business Development & Innovation, Bruce Power), promises a comprehensive discussion on the future of nuclear energy.
