With the global pandemic changing the face of how we do business, conventional ideas and business plans have gone out the window, thus carving opportunities for new investment vehicles and unique ways of doing business. As we all navigate the shift in industry and investment plans, come hear from business leaders in the real estate industry on REITs in a virtual event from 6 to 8 p.m. on February 18, 2021.

Hear from them in a panel form and then breakout into smaller sessions for some discussion time with any one speaker.

Qi Tang, SVP and CFO at RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust Company

Qi Tang is SVP and Chief Financial Officer of RioCan REIT, one of Canada’s largest real estate investment trusts with a total asset value of approximately $15.1 billion as of June 30, 2020.  RioCan owns, manages and develops retail-focused, increasingly mixed-use properties located in prime, high-density transit-oriented areas where Canadians want to shop, live and work. RioCan’s portfolio is comprised of 221 properties with an aggregate net leasable area of approximately 38.5 million square feet at Rican’s interest, including office, residential rental and 15 properties under development.

Qi joined RioCan in September 2016 and was appointed SVP and CFO of the REIT on June 8, 2017.  Qi brings over 20 years of experience and expertise in real estate corporate finance, strategy development, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, tax, process re-engineering and IT management. Qi holds a Master of Science in Accounting degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a CPA, CA and CFA. Prior to her joining RioCan, Qi held the positions of VP Finance & Accounting for Dream Global REIT, CFO for Symphony Senior Living Inc., VP Strategic Planning and Forecasting for Chartwell Retirement Residences, and in various progressive roles at KPMG and Waterfront Toronto.

Qi is a community member of the Board Capital Development Advisory Committee at the North York General Hospital.

Rob Kumer, HBA ’99, CIO at KingSett Capital

As Chief Investment Officer, Rob has responsibility for leading the Investments and Project Finance teams which source, underwrite and structure investment transactions for KingSett’s various Fund strategies.

In addition, Rob provides oversight of KingSett’s mortgage lending business and serves as Fund Manager for KingSett’s Growth Funds and Urban Fund. Rob has overseen transactions in all real estate asset classes, capital markets and joint-venture structures in markets across Canada.

Rob holds a degree in Honours Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario, where he now sits as a member of the school's Advisory Board. As well, Rob sits on the Board of Directors for the Sinai Health System Foundation.

Tsering Yangki, VP of Debt and Real Estate Finance at Dream Unlimited

Tsering Yangki, is the Vice President,  Real Estate Finance for 3 public entities in Canada: the first publicly traded impact investment vehicle Dream Impact Trust (TSX. MPCT.UN), Dream Unlimited (TSX: DRM),  & Dream Office REIT (D.UN).  She is also part of the Executive Management Team of Dream Impact Trust which formally announced on October 13th that it will narrow its focus in investments in the three core impact verticals: Attainable and Affordable Housing, Inclusive Communities, and Resource Efficiency. Dream Unlimited is an award winning Canadian real estate developer and asset manager with approximately $8 Billion of assets under management & Dream Office REIT is an unincorporated, open-ended REIT.

Tsering leads the origination, strategic direction & partnership engagements, execution of debt solutions and oversees the risk management & governance of existing debt, for all 3 entities’ diverse portfolio ranging from condo, purpose-built rentals, office, retail development and income producing properties across Canada & US.

Moderator: Mark Rothschild, Managing Director, Research – Real Estate at Canaccord Genuity

Mark Rothschild is an analyst covering the real estate sector at Canaccord Genuity. Previously, Mark had served in the same capacity at Genuity Capital Markets. His prior experience includes being part of the real estate and lodging investment banking team at Salomon Smith Barney and performing credit analysis on U.S. REITs at Moody's Investors Service in New York. Mark has previously been ranked as a top earnings estimator for real estate in the Thomson Reuters StarMine survey, and according to TipRanks, in 2019 was the number two overall stock picker in Canada. He has an MBA from the University of Baltimore.
