Text is the most common type of content block you will likely add to the Grid.
In order to add a new text block, click on Add content and then choose Rich text.
The Rich Text Editor
The Rich Text Editor behaves similar to editing a document in Microsoft Word or other similar software. You have a toolbar across the top for formatting.
From left to right:
Source Code (HTML)
This pops up a window that allows you to edit the HTML source code for the text block. This is an advanced feature and we do not recommend editors use this without consulting the Digital Services team.
Formats
This opens a menu with five formatting options for your text.
H2, H3, and H4 Headings: These are used for section headings throughout your copy. See the Write for the Web section for more information on effective use of headings.
p (body copy): All text starts off as p (paragraph) initially. You can use this option to revert back if you have changed it to one of the other options.
blockquote (Quote): Blockquotes are a special format option used to call out a quote within your page's copy.
This is how a blockquote is presented to visitors:
To be or not to be, that is the question.
Bold and italics
These options will make text bold (strong) or italics (emphasized).
Left, centre, or right alignment
There are three options for aligning text: left, centre, and right. By default all text is left-aligned.
List formats
There are two list formats: unordered (dots) and ordered (lists). See the Write for the Web section for more information on how to effectively use lists.
The other two icons with the left and right arrows are for outdent and indent. These will shift your text (or list) towards the right or left margin of the screen.
Link
You may link words to other pages (internally or externally) or files. Highlight the text you would like to link, and then click on this icon.
Link to a document: This is for linking to an external site or page (not on ivey.ca).
Link to page: This is for linking to an internal page.
Link to media: This is for linking to a file (in the Media section of Umbraco).
Image
Insert an image into your copy by clicking on this icon.
Note that there is also an Image content type that you can use as part of the Grid that may be easier to format with (left or right of a text block, or stacked on top or below text).
Images must be uploaded to the Media section of Umbraco before being inserted into a text block.
Macros and Embeds
The last two icons are for Insert Macro and Embed.
Insert Macro allows you to add a page asset to your text block. This is an advanced feature and we encourage you to consult the Digital Services team first before using.
Embed allows you to embed a Youtube video on a page.
Note that there is also a Video content type that you can use as part of the Grid that may be easier to format with (left or right of a text block, or stacked on top or below text).
