Barbara Stymiest

Barbara Stymiest 
Director, BlackBerry Board of Directors (Retired)

Barbara Stymiest served as an executive in financial services for over 20 years including senior leadership positions with Royal Bank, TMX Group and BMO Capital Markers.  As CEO of TMX Group, she led the transformation of the technology platform for stock trading and market data, broadened their offerings from stock trading to other asset classes, and presided over its initial public offering in 2003. Her early career at EY LLP was concentrated in both financial services and healthcare.

She has served on the boards of George Weston Limited, President's Choice Bank, Resolution Re, CIFAR, and Sun Life Financial. She has pursued her passion for the importance and complexity of our health care system through board and advisory roles at AGE-WELL, AgeTech Capital, EnvisAge, and Health Data Research Network Canada, as well being a past Vice-Chair of University Health Network.

Ms. Stymiest obtained her H.B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business, Western University. She is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant and was elected by the Council of CPA Ontario in 2011 as a recipient of their award of Outstanding Merit. She also received honorary degrees from Western University, University of New Brunswick, University of Guelph and the Canadian University of Dubai. In 2021, Ms. Stymiest was appointed to the Order of Canada for her trailblazing efforts in Canada’s financial and business sectors, as well as for her mentorship and community engagement.
