When I was looking for master’s in management (MiM) programs at business schools in North America which are especially for people who are early in their careers, Ivey caught my attention. What made it different was that the program is only 16 months long, one could choose from different streams which are unlikely for other business schools, and it focuses on learning through real-world business challenges, which matches how I like to learn and my career goals. I also liked how the program values teamwork, critical thinking, and being able to adapt to change. Additionally, I was excited about the special opportunities like the Ivey Analytics Lab and the Hack the Case competition.

Since joining Ivey, I have built meaningful relationships with students and professors, each of whom has enriched my journey. The collaborative spirit within the cohort and MSc Association fosters an environment where diverse perspectives thrive. Working with my peers on projects and assignments has not only broadened my understanding of various industries but also strengthened my ability to communicate, embrace diverse perspectives and work in cross-functional teams. Faculty members, with their extensive industry expertise and approachable nature, have been instrumental in guiding me through challenging concepts and providing invaluable career insights.

The culture of support at Ivey is unmatched. Whether it’s case-based teaching in the classroom that welcomes diverse perspectives, the accessibility of professors, or the proactive career services team, the program thrives on collaboration and mutual growth. This culture is particularly evident in the way alumni actively engage with current students, sharing their experiences and offering guidance. The sense of camaraderie among students creates a safe space to take risks, challenge assumptions, and grow as individuals and professionals.

To prospective students considering Ivey, my advice would be to embrace the opportunities that the program offers with an open mind and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. The case-method approach demands active participation, critical thinking, and a readiness to adapt, but it also provides an unparalleled platform to develop problem-solving skills and confidence in decision-making. Seek out connections within the Ivey community early on, as the relationships you build here will be invaluable throughout your career.

The case-method has been transformative in developing me as a strategic thinker. By putting me in the driver’s seat of decision-making for real-world scenarios, it has honed my ability to analyze complex problems, consider diverse perspectives, and propose actionable solutions under time constraints. The iterative nature of class discussions ensures that I am constantly refining my thought process and learning to communicate effectively, even when faced with ambiguity. This dynamic approach mirrors the challenges of the business world, preparing me to lead with clarity, resilience, and a collaborative mindset. Ivey’s case-method doesn’t just teach business; it shapes leaders ready to navigate uncertainty and drive impactful change.
