Canadian Business turned to a panel of experts to address what the future holds for Canada’s manufacturing industry.
Paul Boothe, Ivey Professor and Director of the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management, weighed in on the concerns Canadian manufacturers face today, as well as the success stories from other manufacturing companies innovating and preparing for the future.
“When I look at what’s happened to Canadian manufacturing over the past five, 10 years, I would say a big concern is the fact that the average manufacturer has one big customer—the United States—and it hasn’t been doing very well,” said Boothe.
Looking ahead, Boothe said he feels the industry needs to turn towards emerging economies in Asia and Latin America.
