Toronto Mayor John Tory recently announced that the city will be implementing new taxi bylaws, altering how the taxi industry is regulated in Toronto. Specifically, adjusting regulations to accommodate transportation company Uber proves to be an ongoing challenge.
Assistant Professor JP Vergne weighed in on the implications of these new taxi bylaws. For Vergne, the biggest challenge will be compensating taxi licence holders for their investments, which have fallen in value.
“The city needs to think more broadly about how to transition towards a more efficient transportation system,” said Vergne.
