Lycos, a search engine developed in 1994, served as the Google of the online world throughout the 90s until it was bought by Terra Networks SA in 2000.
Trying to reinvent itself, Lycos has recently hosted events in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Los Angeles to launch two wearable devices—a wristband and a ring.
Professor Niraj Dawar, however, believes that rebranding Lycos will be a hard sell since 91 per cent of today’s Internet users came online after Lycos peaked.
“They’d have to build a brand practically from scratch if their intent is to reach a wide customer base,” said Dawar.
