Canadians may want corporations and the rich to pay more tax, but it remains to be seen if the political parties will deliver.
Taxation and other economic issues have come to the forefront as the election campaign heats up.
Assistant Professor Brandon Schaufele told CBC News the sentiment on taxation doesn’t mesh with the typical Conservative platform.
"A longstanding theme for the Conservative Party would be reducing taxes on the wealthy or on corporations, but it seems as though most self-identifying Conservatives don't want to take that route."
Schaufele was weighing in on survey results from Vote Compass, CBC's online voter engagement survey on the major issues of the election campaign. It found 71 per cent of respondents said corporations should pay more tax, while 77 per cent said the wealthy should pay more in tax. The findings are based on 309,985 respondents who participated in Vote Compass from August 29 to September 12, 2015.
