According to Statistics Canada, as of July 2015, there are now more people in Canada age 65 and over than there are under age 15.
Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt spoke with CBC News about the implications and economic impacts of Canada’s aging population.
“As the Canadian population gets older, we've got more and more retired people,” said Moffatt. “That puts pressure on the health system and pension system because there's a smaller cohort of working age people to support that.”
CBC News published a second piece concerning aging populations on an international scale. Moffatt weighed in on countries such Japan, Denmark and Germany regarding their approach to managing a shift in demographics.
