Sharon Irwin-Foulon, Executive Director of Career Management and Corporate Recruiting at Ivey, spoke with Yahoo Finance on the five key trends affecting the job market this year:
- Job seekers will do more research
- Reputations matter more
- It’s less about what you make and more about what you get
- Incorporating video into the interview process is on the rise
- There’s a time and a place for a cover letter
In terms of upholding one’s reputation, Irwin-Foulon cautions job seekers to be mindful of the personal image they portray on social media.
“When it comes to social media, don’t kid yourself, the firms are checking and why wouldn’t they,” she said. “They ask ‘what has this person put out to the world.’ They just want to feel that the candidate understands they have a reputation to manage.”
