An additional link has been added to include Mike Moffatt's appearance on TVO's The Agenda with Steve Paikin. Moffatt was interviewed alongside the National Post’s Transportation reporter Kristine Owram on the Bombardier layoffs and Air Canada C-Series jet purchase.
Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt, and other experts, say the federal Liberals are ideally positioned to gain tough commitments from Bombardier in exchange for financial aid.
“I think the federal government can make a deal here that is in their interest, but they need to get something in return,” said Moffatt. “That could be an equity stake, but it could also be management changes, and changes to the dual class share structure, which puts all the power in the (founding) family.”
But the potential bailout raises other questions.
What will the government do for Canada's struggling energy sector? And what does the future hold for Bombardier?
