Hamburg, Germany will no longer allow single serve coffee pods as part of its new eco-conscientious purchasing regulations called the “Guide to Sustainable Procurement.”
Professor Niraj Dawar’s book, Tilt: Shifting Your Strategy from Products to Customers, looked at Nespresso’s single-use pods, exploring why consumers are willing to pay more in comparison to home-made loose coffee. Dawar told Yahoo Finance he does not see the banning of coffee pods taking effect in Canada.
“First of all it’s very good coffee, it’s espresso you can make at home – you don’t have to wake up on a Saturday morning, roll out of bed with a hangover, get dressed to go out into the cold, stand in line and have your change ready to order a coffee,” he said. “People value that convenience.”
