Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s post-budget visit to Ivey on March 29 attracted local media attention.
Morneau spoke with students, faculty, and staff about provisions tabled in the 2017 budget that support gender equality and women entrepreneurs. The event was covered by CTV News London, Global News and Western News.
“We know that women are central to our economy. We know that we don’t have as much workforce participation as we’d like, so we want to make sure as a government that we’re thinking about that in everything we do,” Morneau told CTV News.
Morneau’s visit was timely for students, who are learning about the role of demographics and the inclusion of women in business in contributing to long-term national growth and prosperity.
MBA student Juliana Chesterfield participated in both the discussion with Morneau and a CTV News interview.
“A lot of women are not only receiving lower pay, but they are also not seeking out these opportunities as much as their male counterparts are. So what we really want to do is see women have the support they need to be empowered to advance in their careers,” she said.
