The housing market in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has been scorching hot lately, pricing many home buyers right out of town. As a result, many communities outside of the GTA are seeing people snap up houses at historic rates.
Assistant professor Davin Raiha explained to CBC's Ontario Morning that this trend can have a number of impacts including longer commuting times to and from work. This phenomenon could lead people to spend less money in their local communities.
"Simply, there has been a fundamental mismatch between supply and demand within the GTA that has pushed people to look certainly further afield," says Raiha.
