While a growing number of Canadians look into franchise opportunities as a way to diversify their wealth, there are pros and cons, Associate Professor Kersi Antia tells The Globe and Mail.
Owners gain all of the benefits of a franchise and its brand, but they have to run the business on the original business model, leaving little room for negotiation.
“You have to go along with everything corporate decides. … Yes, you get the keys to the kingdom, but the kingdom poses a huge tax on you,” Antia says.
