LONDON, ON, June 2, 2014 – Cyber attacks, like the recent one on eBay, leave companies scrambling to find other means of storing critical information or increasing security measures. But an Ivey cyber crime expert says there could be a silver lining.
Derrick Neufeld, Associate Professor of Information Systems, argues that hackers make organizations stronger by bringing three benefits:
- “Black hat”, or criminal hackers, drive organizational transparency
- Organizational “hackathons” stimulate unexpected innovation
- Hacktivist-activist collaborations yield positive social change
