Beth Pollock, MBA ’10, was one of this year’s recipients of a Young Women in Energy (YWE) Award.
Now in its third year, the award recognizes Alberta’s emerging female leaders in energy. Winners are chosen based on their drive to make a difference in the energy sector, motivation to lead others, and passion for innovation.
“I feel honoured to have been selected for the award and recognized with such an accomplished group of women,” Pollock said. “I am especially looking forward to the opportunity to be paired with an executive mentor – something the organization does for all award recipients.”
Pollock currently holds the role of Assistant Treasurer at Gibson Energy, and has previously worked in investment banking and consulting. She credits Ivey for developing her finance skills and helping her transition between careers.
“Pursuing my MBA at Ivey allowed me to develop my finance skills and make the transition from consulting to investment banking,” Pollock said. “When an opportunity presented itself to join Gibson Energy, I recognized it would be a unique opportunity to use the skills I had acquired at Ivey and apply them in a company where I would have more accountability for decisions.”
On the YWE website, Pollock provided a simple piece of advice for other women working in the energy industry: “Focus on the work.” Work hard and produce your best deliverables to better your chances of moving up in an organization, she advised.
