Building on its nearly 100-year legacy of real-world leadership, Ivey’s newly launched strategy aims to inspire leaders for a sustainable and prosperous world. The new strategic plan, entitled Ivey Next, includes a new purpose and renewed mission. Ivey Dean Sharon Hodgson said the vision for the plan was inspired by extensive community consultation and input.
“At the core of Ivey’s new strategy is our desire to be courageous, innovate, and have greater impact. While we take pride in our legacy, we are not standing still in this time of unprecedented disruption,” she said.
One of the most significant changes is embedded in the School’s renewed mission, setting a challenge for Ivey to “address critical issues facing business and society.”
“We aspire to be a place to understand and address the critical issues of the world and bring our unique expertise in management and leadership to transform individuals, organizations, and communities to thrive and prosper,” said Hodgson.
The three critical issues the School is taking on in the coming years are 1) Evolution of Work, 2) Canada's Place in the World, and 3) Sustainability.
In addition to bringing these issues to the forefront in the classroom, Ivey’s researchers and faculty will contribute to knowledge-creation and application individually and through the School’s wide range of Research Centres and Institutes.
A new era of case teaching and lifelong learning
Ivey will remain a school focused on general management and leadership development. And while case-based and experiential learning will remain at the core of Ivey’s curriculum, the strategy also involves bringing innovative technologies and approaches to teaching to deliver a more connected and engaged experience for participants.
Such experiences will continue through to alumni via new program offerings geared to foster a lifelong pursuit of knowledge for both alumni and other learners at different stages of their career.
“We will build upon our innovative learning approaches, career coaching, and latest insights through research – making Ivey a truly lifelong partner for our community’s success,” said Hodgson.
To make measurable progress, the framework for Ivey Next focuses on six goals, including:
- Advance World-Class Research;
- Innovate Business Learning & Student Experience;
- Develop Global Citizens;
- Create a Lifelong Learning Ecosystem;
- Foster an Inclusive Culture; and,
- Build Organizational Agility.
“We have laid the foundation, but our work is just beginning,” said Hodgson. “As we turn planning into action, our values of integrity, inclusivity, community, and courage will guide our decision-making and support our continuous pursuit of excellence. Accomplishing our goals will require engagement and commitment by our whole community, and I invite everyone to follow our continuing journey and contribute to our collective success.”
