For Karen Fryday-Field, MBA ’98, having trusted advisors and role models has been key to effective leadership. That’s why, in addition to building several successful companies, she has always devoted energy to mentorship and advancing women leaders.
Fryday-Field, founder and Senior Consultant of Meridian Edge Leadership and Governance Consulting, is one of eight Southwestern Ontario women leaders being recognized at the YMCA Women of Excellence Awards Gala later today. She'll receive an award in the Entrepreneurship category.
The award, which was sponsored by Ivey and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, recognizes Fryday-Field’s impact as a change maker, health-care leader, and mentor to the next generation of women leaders. Learn more about Ivey’s Women of Excellence award winner below.
Meet Karen Fryday-Field, MBA '98
Karen Fryday-Field began her career as a physiotherapist, but later went on to do her MBA at Ivey. She combined her passion for business and health care by founding two successful companies focused on improving health and well-being: True Hearing Health and Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy. She also founded Meridian Edge Leadership and Governance Consulting, an internationally successful consulting business that has helped hundreds of global boards and organizations be more effective.
More recently, Fryday-Field took on the role of CEO at GOVERN for IMPACT, an international organization whose purpose is to advocate and research governance excellence. Passionate about advancing women, she has also dedicated her time as a volunteer mentor for young women and been involved in women’s leadership projects.
In a video address to honour Fryday-Field at the gala, Dr. Susanne Schmid, Vice Dean of Basic Sciences at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, cited Fryday-Field’s industrious spirit and accomplishments as an entrepreneur.
“Karen [Fryday-Field], your tenacity, vision and commitment to lifting up the next generation of women is inspiring. You have succeeded on an international scale and helped so many people along the way,” said Schmid. “We are thrilled to celebrate you today.”
