EMBA participant Luc Stang, GINCOR Werx President & CEO, has been named an EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Award winner in Ontario.
For three decades, the award program has shone a spotlight on thousands of visionary Canadian entrepreneurs who are changing what’s possible for Canada and the world.
A serial entrepreneur at heart, Stang has worked in various trades and has been self-employed for half of his working life. In 2002, Stang purchased Gingras Corriveau from his uncle Bob Corriveau and business partner Philippe Gingras. Since then, Stang has grown the company from a rural regional operation to the industry-leading business it is today. Gincor Werx now comprises of six companies with 10 sites in Ontario with 387 employees.
I’m incredibly proud to be celebrating my recent win of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award while also pursuing my EMBA at Ivey. This achievement feels especially meaningful because I truly believe it reflects the value of doing the right things consistently for all of our stakeholders—employees, customers, partners, and communities. Over the years, I’ve made it a priority to build a business that doesn’t just focus on profit but also prioritizes integrity, long-term relationships, and sustainable growth. These principles have laid the foundation for Gincor Werx’s success, and I think they played a crucial role in earning this recognition." —Luc Stang
As Stang looks ahead, he is motivated to continue pushing the boundaries both for Gincor Werx and for himself.
"While winning the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award has been a great honour, it’s just one milestone on a much longer journey," he said. "I’m already setting my sights on competing for the national EY Entrepreneur award in the future. This is a personal and professional goal that will drive me to continue refining my leadership and growing my business. The journey is ongoing, and I’m excited for what lies ahead as I continue to learn, grow, and lead."
Impact of the Ivey EMBA
Luc Stang reflects on how Ivey's EMBA program has profoundly impacted his professional and personal growth journey.
Choosing the Ivey EMBA program was a strategic decision for me. As the leader of Gincor Werx, I know how important it is to continually deepen my understanding of business, leadership, and strategy in order to stay ahead of industry changes and foster innovation within our organization. I wanted to challenge myself to grow, both professionally and personally, and to gain the tools and insights I need to be the best leader I can be—not just for Gincor Werx, but for the broader business community.
What has stood out the most in my time at Ivey thus far, is the opportunity to learn alongside such a talented and diverse group of classmates. The EMBA cohort is filled with individuals who bring a wide range of experiences, expertise, and perspectives, which has made the learning process so dynamic and enriching. I genuinely enjoy the intellectual energy of the program and the thought-provoking discussions we have. It’s inspiring to see how my classmates are navigating similar challenges in their own organizations, and how we can all support each other in our journeys.
I’ve also found the support from the faculty and staff at Ivey to be invaluable. They’ve helped me navigate this formal educational journey after four decades of working for others as well in business with no post undergrad degree. I am grateful for the personalized attention and the high level of expertise they bring to the program. Their encouragement has made all the difference as I balance the demands of my business with the rigor of the EMBA program.
Beyond the technical knowledge and leadership skills I’m gaining, this experience has reinforced my deep commitment to continuing education. I’ve seen firsthand how investing in yourself—whether through formal education, mentorship, or personal development—can lead to profound growth and new opportunities. Being part of the Ivey Alumni network, I feel like I’m part of a community that shares my values and my drive to always push forward. The connections I’ve made here will continue to benefit me long after I’ve completed the program.
