“CSR Needs CPR: Corporate Sustainability and Politics", an article co-authored by Ivey Professor Tima Bansal, was recently announced as the winner of the 2019 Best Article Award in the California Management Review.
The article was born from a series of intensive and creative conversations among scholars at an academic retreat in Bretesche, Brittany in 2017.
The authors argue that corporations will lobby and fund politicians to influence environmental regulations. Often times, they do this to benefit themselves, not society. The article proposes that corporations need to disclose such lobbying and campaign-funding efforts and that CSR ratings services should demand this information in assessing the corporation’s social responsibility.
The Best Article Award is given out every year by the California Management Review. It recognizes an article that has made the most important contribution to management education.
