The Ivey Social Impact Club (SIC) continued its tradition of hosting a Sustainable Careers Week again this year from November 10th to 16th. The week provided a platform for over 100 participants from the Ivey and Western Communities to explore career opportunities in sustainability across diverse key industries like finance, consulting, and research & development, giving students practical insights into building impactful futures.
Sustainable Finance Panel
SIC hosted a Sustainable Finance Panel where they explored Sustainable Finance from the perspective of a large financial institution compared to a sole impact investing venture. They welcomed Henry Liu, Sustainable Finance Associate at TD Bank and Elliot Warner, Co-Founder & Director of Technology, Finance, and Strategy at Goparity Canada.
Henry previously took part in TD’s ESG rotational program where he was able to work in various areas of the bank including Environmental and Social Risk Management, Investor Relations, TD Securities, and TD Asset Management.
Elliot is an Ivey 22’ Alum and started working on Canada’s chapter of Goparity through his New Venture Project in his last year at Ivey.
Henry shared that his work is centered around meeting TD’s $500 billion sustainable financing target and his team consults different areas of the bank on how they can implement sustainable finance strategies in their everyday operations. Elliot explained GoParity’s mission to create positive social change through a crowdsourcing model and making impact investing accessible for all. Elliot also shared a link to give attendees $50 of credits to start investing with GoParity and advertised that GoParity Canada is currently hiring for a new role.
CPG Sustainable Packaging Case Competition
In collaboration with the Western Science Student Council, this competition challenged students to develop innovative packaging solutions that aligned with sustainability goals. A huge thank you to our judges—Chris Max from Kraft Heinz, Jasmine Prégent from Keurig Dr. Pepper, and David Clarkin from Product Ventures—whose insights and expertise elevated the experience for everyone involved.
The winning team, Annette Braun and Paige Carlson, stood out with their practical solution to messy containers hindering recyclability. Their design—a PLA film inside condiment bottles that separates with the lid for clean recycling—was praised for its simplicity, feasibility, and focus on user behavior while avoiding significant cost implications.
The competition showcased the importance of balancing innovation with practicality in sustainability efforts. Small, thoughtful changes like these demonstrate how design can drive significant environmental benefits. Congratulations to Annette and Paige, and thank you again to our incredible judges!
Quinn+Partners ESG Case Competition
This case competition was run in collaboration with the Ivey Consulting Club and our gracious judges —Vanessa Ho, Elizabeth Hind, Chelsie Hunt, and Stephen Penstone from Quinn+Partners Consultants. Participants were tasked with helping a mock client decarbonize their operations. Teams presented a range of strategies that addressed key priorities, offering diverse approaches to the challenge. While no single solution captured every dimension, the collective ideas underscored how different perspectives can work together to tackle sustainability issues effectively.
Ultimately, the competition highlighted the multifaceted nature of ESG consulting and demonstrated how collaborative problem-solving can uncover innovative solutions to today’s pressing sustainability challenges. We would also like to congratulate Sophie Chen, Kelly Lee, Victoria Lee, and Carina Luo for being the team closest to a Quinn+Partners-level solution and our winners. Congratulations!
