Growing up, I loved spending time outdoors. From training for competitive Ringette to attending overnight camps, I thrived when connected with the planet. As I reflect on my university journey, I’ve come to realize that I’ve gradually lost touch with nature. At Ivey, I’ve learned to rekindle that relationship, embracing the fact that sustainability drives every business decision. Beyond environmental conservation, sustainability is embedded in human resources and long-term business productivity, empowering me to pursue a career and even launch my own business focused on sustainability. In my free time, I’m passionate about content creation, snowboarding and karaoke.

What is your personal definition of sustainability?

To me, sustainability means balance–between people, organizations and the planet. It’s a complex process that spans time, meeting the needs of the present while ensuring the wellbeing of future generations. Before Ivey, I saw sustainability as its own stream, isolated from my career goals. Today, I know that sustainability is integrated in every business operation, from production to marketing. Whether it be an individual or an organization, I’ve learned that sustainable approaches require collective effort from all communities, and consider economic, social and environmental impact. Ultimately, achieving this balance will ensure long-term value for humans, society and the world.

What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?

As I embark on my career journey, I see sustainability playing a significant role every step of the way. This summer, I’ll be working in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, where environmental sustainability is a top priority. Today, consumers highly value sustainable sourcing, and I’d love to learn its implications across the supply chain.

Long-term, I hope to pursue my passion for sustainability through both the consulting and marketing sectors. People are my source of motivation, and I hope to promote social responsibility by fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion. As a woman of colour, I believe offering resources and support is crucial to workplace cohesion and the lifelong productivity of any organization.

Although this is my current vision, I know that my goals will continue to evolve as I grow beyond my academic and professional experiences. Specifically, I’d love to consider the possibility of entrepreneurship and launching my own business. Thus, I hope to further develop my knowledge, specifically in terms of sustainable strategy and decision-making. On a smaller scale, I believe that I can take daily steps to create a sustainable future, such as making ethical and sustainability-driven purchase decisions.

What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?

Ivey Community Consulting Project: This past semester, I proposed a three-year plan to craft sustainable success for the Digital Creative Arts Centre (DCAC). Over three months, I collaborated with my team of four students and Accenture advisor on the pro-bono consulting project. Located in London, Ontario, DCAC aims to achieve sustainable revenues and provide low-cost art programs. I analyzed DCAC’s current operations and conducted market research to pitch a recommendation comprised of three pillars: amplifying promotion, revolutionizing the workforce, and transforming partnerships. As my first project for a corporate firm, I loved exploring sustainability and aspire to continue giving back to the community.

CREATE Conference Council: My interest in sustainability first began in high school. As Activities Coordinator, I spearheaded our annual leadership conference, aiming to promote environmental wellness. By collaborating with four executives, I launched a month-long social media campaign, educating users on environmental sustainability and sparking community action. Challenges included using a reusable water bottle, going for a walk, and cleaning garbage in the neighbourhood. Ultimately, the two-day conference attracted 200+ students from 11 schools across the Greater Toronto Area. Moving forward, I hope to continue fueling my passion for sustainability, while inspiring others to do the same.

Please list any sustainability-related interests you want to explore during the certificate.
