My name is Gerry Li and I am the leader for the Ghana Team heading to All Nations University in Kororidua, this Sunday. Alongside me on this trip are Jesse Brahme and Christopher Lau. Having just about finished our pre-departure training, it is safe to say that the months planning and mental preparation done for this trip is truly going to pay off. We are all incredibly excited for the five weeks of adventure ahead of us.
During this service learning trip, Chris, Jesse, and I will be undertaking various projects ranging from field research to in-class case study workshops for the students at All Nations University. Through our time there, we hope to build relationships with the students we will be instructing as well as entrepreneurs in the community. Our time in Ghana will be used to help grow us in our understanding of the economic environment in the country while also allowing us to share a bit of the amazing education we have been fortunate enough to have here at the Richard Ivey School of Business.
Preparation so far has included research planning, case instruction workshops, and curriculum development. Throughout this process, the entire service learning class featuring groups also going to Kenya and Rwanda, have been educated and mentored by various individuals at the University of Western Ontario who have had significant experience in the countries we will be visiting. Their insight and advice have been not only incredibly useful for our planning, but inspirational as well.
Over the next five weeks, we will continue to log our own experiences regarding this trip and we hope to return back here with stories of our own!
