6 Happy Canadians
5 Ivey Cases for each of us to teach
4 hours late for every meeting (not us, but EVERYONE ELSE)
3 Straight days without power
2 days of Kenya exploration
1 Class in the books! (and one freak-out over a lost wallet which has since been found)
We just finished our first Case class with the Kenyan students, and after months of intense sweat and anticipation…….NAILED IT! Breathe easy Canada, we are alright! Nevertheless, life in Kenya has been as advertised. Differences are not hard to spot, and neither are the only 6 people in the country with sunburns. The sun is shining, the people are smiling, and nothing comes together until the very last second. “POLE POLE” [pronounced polay polay] is everyone's favorite word. It means ‘slowly slowly’, and goes hand in hand with the Hakuna Matata (No worries) attitude which we are all beginning/trying to adopt….some quicker than others!
Our hosts have been absolutely amazing. From the airport until this very moment we are constantly checked on and greeted with hugs and smiles. We have two incredible German roommates that have become a part of our family. With the 5 guys all sleeping in one room we are getting very close – BUNKBEDS ARE THE NEW QUEENSIZE! Without power we have gone through our fair share of candles, but our home could not be more cozy. Rob is a master chef, and the rest of us are master eaters.
We have already walked through several towns and eaten some wonderful Kenyan dishes. There is no question that life is different here – economically, politically, socially and just about every other word that ends in ‘ally’. We have all been in constant discussion with one another over the experiences we have shared and we cannot wait for this journey to continue to unfold!
