Another few days have passed and to say they were eventful might be an understatement. We are always running around on some excursion or errand and when we are in the comfort of our Staff Shack we are surrounded by friendly JKUAT students.

Saturday we decided to have a chill day to recoup after our first hectic week of teaching. We did the tourist thing and headed to a nearby hotel called the Senate that had a pretty nice pool. We grabbed a few colas and chatted about our students, our plans for the coming weekends, and did a little people watching too.

This past Sunday we had the chance to see a Gor Mahia vs. AFC Leopards Kenyan Premier Leaugue football game and that was quite an experience. I suppose it is uncommon to see Mzungus at a KPL game so we were practically celebrities. We had a decent crowd waiting for pictures with us, taking candid shots, and cat calling us from the stands. It was all in good taste though and we played along. Gor Mahia, the green team we cheered for, won so all in all it was a great day.

Yesterday classes resumed again and we were all excited to get back up in front of the JKUAT students that have continued to prove that their business acumen is top notch. Yesterday, Brendan taught an entrepreneurial start-up case and he could barely quiet the class down they were so passionate. Today Kayla had a similar experience with an interesting JKUAT case that was written by our Ivey Service Learning Alum last year. It’s safe to say that I am eager to teach tomorrow but I will have some tough acts to follow.

Today before class we had the amazing experience of visiting a local Orphanage called The Ark Children’s Home. Before we visited we all stopped at a local market to pick up some necessary supplies for the children and a bit of candy too! The institution fostered 30 children ranging from 4 to 17 years of age that were all very grateful for our small donation. In thanks, they sung us a song that nearly brought us all to tears. Not only were we inspired to be thankful for what we have been given, but also we decided that our case writing initiative would focus on the entrepreneurial spirit of the Orphanage and its housemother Carole.

This week has been action packed and eye opening. We will be sure to check in with you all soon.

Kwaheri!
