On May 15th, 2017, Prof. Michael King of Ivey’s Scotiabank Digital Banking Lab moderated a panel of FinTech executives at a full-day conference on “Redefining Global Financial Centres in a FinTech Era”. The event was co-organized by the Toronto Region Board of Trade, the Toronto Financial Services Alliance and the Ontario Centres of Excellence and coincided with the publication of a report on the state of Toronto’s FinTech ecosystem, titled “Seizing the Opportunity: Building the Toronto Region into a Global FinTech Leader”. The report was commissioned by the TSFA and written by Accenture and McMillan LLP.
The conference featured three panels: the first of regulators, the second of banks and the TMX, and the third of FinTech firms. The FinTech panel featured senior executives from four Canadian success stories, who talked about their businesses, the obstacles and challenges they have faced, and the outlook for Toronto’s FinTech sector:
