On March 7th, Ivey's FinTech Club gathered a group of 30 students for a one-day firm trip to EQ Bank’s headquarters and the Scotiabank Digital Factory in Toronto to network with industry experts and explore the world of FinTech.
EQ Bank
The first stop was to the EQ Bank’s headquarters. Students were invited to enjoy lunch with various EQ Bank leaders and learn about the company’s history and future plans. The club gained a strong appreciation for EQ Bank’s goal of growth, as well as its role in developing Canada's growing FinTech industry. The session ended with an exciting Q&A where EQ reps dove deep into conversations with students about a variety of hot topics including open banking.
Scotiabank Digital Factory
Following an engaging morning with EQ Bank staff, students headed to Scotiabank's Digital Factory. Students were first invited to take a tour of the office and its unique design. Passing through the open concept work spaces, the bowling alley and vast rotunda, students experienced how innovative work environments can inspire innovative ideas.
The tour concluded and students were invited to meet with Scotiabankers working in digital banking, FinTech through an interactive Q&A session. The session focused on each team member's journey in banking and finance, as well as their experiences working with in a constantly changing digital industry. Students gained invaluable insights into Scotiabank’s innovative operations, while receiving valuable career advice. Students were invited to network with the Scotiabank Team following the Q&A session to further discuss opportunities and challenges facing Canada's FinTech sector.
Overall, Ivey Fintech’s firm trip was a huge success. Students on the trip were quick it inquire about future firm trip plans and have expressed a deeper interest in the growing world of fintech.
